Vacation?

We actually managed a somewhat relaxing vacation this past week. Obviously we stuck pretty close to home but we did manage a 90 minute trip to a cute little town, lunch and play at a park about a half hour away, massages, garage sales, and we managed to watch a movie. All in all it has been a very enjoyable break. We've enjoyed just being together and laughing a lot! Our excursions have made us tired and thankfully the babies are doing pretty well at night. For the most part they wake up to eat and then will go back to sleep - sometimes not in the cradle - but they do go back to sleep.

Our friend Vickie was here for a visit and we had a great time together. It is sad that I had to move out of the state to realize what an amazing and awesome friend I have in her! She was amazing. She wants to have twins herself someday and amazingly enough after her visit with us she still wants to have twins!! Although she did clarify that she would prefer to not have a toddler and twins at the same time :) Friends from Ohio stopped in as well, Lois and Drew are long time friends of Mathwon's and we enjoyed our visit with them.

It's amazing how the twins are different and how we see their little personalities coming out already. Their feet, their ears, their noses, are so different and the list goes on. We are always saying things like, "Did you see her feet? Aren't they just so cute?" The twins are eating well and are growing each day. Mathwon came home from a quick business trip and could tell a difference in their weight This has been a joy because with Demani there were some unfounded concerns about his weight. We call Mekai our linebacker :) Demani has adjusted well and will run to the babies when they cry and will wipe imaginary spit up from their faces with a burp rag. He loves to kiss the babies and to hold them.

Becoming a family of five has been quite the adjustment. I will tell you that honestly. I had always heard that going from 1 kid to 2 kids is a big adjustment and so I was hoping that we could just skip that since we were going from 1 to 3 :) A person can hope :) Needless to say, it hasn't quite gone that way...though it is going well. Like my mom said, even though we have had tough moments - things are going very well. The amazing part in all of this is that Mathwon and I feel closer to each other than we ever have. For one, we realized quickly that to survive we had to be a team. I mean we are outnumbered now!! And then to do more than survive - to enjoy these 3 blessings and this life - we have to be nice to each other, be patient, and cut each other some slack. And with strength not our own, we are living that out, for the most part. :)

I am working on becoming a passionate wife and mother and have realized I need to discover what else I am passionate about, because I am still Bethany - apart from being a wife and a mom. While I intend to go all out in my mothering - there are still parts of me that are fulfilled by something other than changing diapers, nursing twins, making dinner, doing laundry, tickling Demani, or cooing to Seren or Mekai . There is a creative side of me that I need to nourish during this intense time of mothering - yes it will take sacrifice and some discipline (ie. getting up early) but its not something I will regret and I believe I will be a better mom for pursuing it. I am blessed to be married to a man who supports this notion fully - I know that he will support my endeavors in pursuing my passions. Sometimes it is hard to imagine ever having time to do anything but be a mom - there is always something that needs done or someone that needs attention. For example, Seren is laying on my lap as I've typed this...she is sound asleep... if you could just see her sweet little face and petite little feet.... Did you catch that...? How my attention is so abruptly diverted when it comes to my little ones? It's always been that way and will always be, it comes with being a mom and that is why it's hard to pursue anything else. In a moment, with a cry, or a whimper I am totally all into my babies. After all, I am passionate about them too. It's amazing how I can't wait to get out of the house to feel like a person and a woman again ( Mathwon provides ample opportunities for this) and when it's time to leave I am torn - I want to go but I don't... Motherhood is a strange medley of songs that your heart dances to. I hope I can learn the steps.

loved this pic, couldn't get it to rotate for the life of me...call it baby brain drain

Sometimes it comes down to whatever works!

Vickie discovered that the twins enjoyed being bounced on the yoga/birth ball.

Holding hands.

Sleep is like a drug....
You can't get enough.
You would do just about anything for it.
You would forgo a shower or food in order to get sleep.
It's all you can think about.
You are sad when a good nap ends.
Withdrawal becomes almost more than you can bear.
